Last.fm 2.0 iPhone App Sneak Peek

Back in July, Last.fm released the 1.0 version of their free iPhone app which basically lets you have access to the millions of songs streamable from their website by accessing various stations.
The 1.0 app has a rating of 3 out of 5 stars with most complaints being that it crashed frequently. Other low ratings were mainly complaints of the lack of scrobbling…though that’s really an issue with the limitations Apple put on the SDK.
Apple releases iPod shuffle software 1.0.4

Apple has released software version 1.0.4 for the second-generation iPod shuffle. According to Apple, the update offers enhanced support for 2GB models, contains bug fixes, and supersedes all previous versions.

References found in the code of the latest iPod firmware update hint at several future features , including phone and messaging options. According to an AppleInsider report, the dissected software has hidden files named “t_feature_app_PHONE_APP” and “t_feature_app_MESSENGER_APP,” as well as variables such as “kPhoneSignalStrength,” “clPhoneCallHistoryModel,” and “prPhoneSettingsMenu.” The code also reportedly has references to an iPod-based search application, an iPod keyboard, and two new games—“Simon” and “Stacker.” AppleInsider says the code also hints at customizable iPod interface themes and other appearance preferences.

Avanquest Software has announced the release of iGadget , new software which the company calls the “ultimate tool and companion for your iPod.” The $30 software allows users to move iPod music files and playlists to and from any PC, as well as download Outlook e-mails, contacts and appointments, RSS news feeds, Podcasts, driving directions, weather forecasts, horoscopes, movie showtimes and more to an iPod for on-the-go viewing. iGadget works with Windows 98/2000/XP and requires Outlook 2002/Office XP or later for Outlook integration. The company said the software is compatible with all iPod models in the marketplace.

When Apple released GarageBand in 2004, the music creation program aimed at consumers seemed like just another component in the iLife suite of multimedia applications. But a little more than two years after that initial release, audio software and hardware makers have come out with consumer products of their own. And few make any secret of the fact that it was GarageBand that inspired them to reach out to this new audience.
UK iTunes TV and movie downloads now possible
The opportunity now exists for Apple to make a play to offer movies and TV shows through iTunes in the UK.
This is because clashes between broadcasters and independent programme producers over who controls on-demand rights in the UK have been resolved, according to reports.
The news emerges as UK broadcaster Channel 4 reveals it plans to launch its own movie download service this autumn under its Film Four brand.The Guardian reports a wave of such services coming from broadcasters, movie studios and technology firms in the coming months, as the gold rush begins in the video-on-demand space.
